Hullfc.com takes a look back at July for our Women’s and Girls sides…

The Girl’s teams continue to excel in their leagues as the U14s remained unbeaten throughout July to bring their winning run to a staggering seven games.

However, the Women’s team were unlucky in both of their July matches as a close affair against top of the league Hull KR and a defeat to Sheffield Eagles meant they were unable to claim a victory last month.

Hull FC Under 14s

Hull FC U14s 20 – 0 Stanningley U14s (U14s East)

The U14s Girls put in a strong first-half performance against a third-placed Stanningley. The team turned up the tempo in the second-half despite the awful weather conditions to remain unbeaten at home this season as they were able to stop all of Stanningley’s advances to nil their opposition.

West Bowling U14s 32-36 Hull FC U14s (U14s East)

A tough victory against West Bowling was clinched by a travelling team of just fourteen players. The visitors were trailing 22-14 at the break after a further injury to Peyton Petherbridge brought the team down to just thirteen players. The points were secured in the final ten minutes as the remaining players came together to score twice in seven minutes with the winning try coming from returnee Ciara May in the final minute of the game to complete a hat-trick.

U14s Player of the Month: Jasmine Smith

Smith played a key role in both of the U14s victories in July as she mastered the stand-off role in both games to lead her teammates to victory. Her role proved to be pivotal in the victory against West Bowling as she forced a goal-line drop out to change the outcome of the game.

On Smith’s form in July, U14s Coach Lorien Pettit said: “Smith has had a fantastic attitude this month as she has been excellent both on and off the pitch.”

“She is really showing how her understanding of the game and her development as a player has improved as she only joined the team in late April.”

Hull FC Under 16s

Hull FC U16s 24 – 0 Whinmoor Warriors U16s

The Under 16s the points in their only scheduled fixture throughout July ahead of the summer break, after their opposition were forced to forfeit. The team remain joint top of the league after only losing one match this season.

Hull FC Women

Hull KR Women 32 – 20 Hull FC Women

The Women’s team were unable to claim victory in their first game of the month despite a second-half comeback in the Women’s Hull Derby saw the team drawn at 20 points apiece going into the final quarter. Braces from Alyx Worth and Abby Price were not enough to claim victory over the current league leaders but the match highlighted the progress that the team have made this season.

Sheffield Eagles 36 – 4 Hull FC Women

An early try for Nat Romano proved to be one of the only positives in an otherwise bleak day in South Yorkshire. The match was halted after a serious injury sent Hull player Tia Hodgins to hospital in the first half. However, the game continued with the Eagles taking full control of the game as the visitors were reduced to nine players at some stages in the second half.

Women’s Player of the Month: Kerrie Dearing

Dearing made her return to the side in the Women’s Hull Derby and she proved valuable in both of the matches in as she played in new positions in a depleted side.

On Dearing’s form in July, Women’s Coach Ryan Hill said: “She came back from a shoulder injury at the start of the month and came straight into the squad for the derby in which she played a good 40 minutes of rugby and defended really well.”

“In the Sheffield game, she came of the bench to play in the back-row – a position she has never played before but she took to the role and carried and defended well for us, especially when it was a game when our backs where against the wall.”
