Hull FC have partnered up with the Cumbrian Institute of Sport to establish an extension of the club’s Centre of Excellence programme, giving young people the opportunity to progress in Rugby League.
The Black & Whites have had a strong presence in West Cumbria over the last two years, developing a Centre of Excellence hub to try and identify young Rugby League talent.
Relationships with various clubs in the West Cumbria region have blossomed over the last 24 months, with Hull FC providing the opportunity for youngsters to progress as Rugby League players without having to travel long distances to East Yorkshire.
The next development in the project will see Hull FC partner up with the Cumbrian Institute of Sport at Newton Rig Penrith to form an extension of the club’s successful Centre of Excellence programme, creating more opportunities for youngsters to progress as athletes whilst fulfilling their academic studies.
All learners will receive technical, tactical and situational coaching, as well as Strength & Conditioning, and access to sports therapy and physiotherapy.
The Centre of Excellence will allow players to train full-time, combining studying a BTEC Diploma in Sport with daily rugby and Strength & Conditioning.
Hull FC’s Head of Rugby League Development, Lee Crooks, said: “This is a really exciting step in our project out in Cumbria.
“The Centre of Excellence in Cumbria will give every student the best possible chance of success as they embark on what is a very exciting step in their lives.”
