Hull FC Women’s head coach Ryan Hill says he is pleased with the improvements shown by his side in the opening weeks of the new Betfred Women’s Championship season.

After a heavy opening round defeat to Warrington Wolves Lunas, an improved performance came with a narrow defeat to Stanningley before getting their first points on the board at the end of March with a convincing 28-0 win over Wakefield.

“The group has started to grow in confidence after our first win of the season – you can see we have visibly improved in each outing,” Hill said ahead of this weekend’s fourth outing of the season.

“As a squad, we are in a much better position now compared to last year, and I want that to be reflected in our results.”

With the Black & Whites having only picked up a handful of wins during a season of transition in 2022, Hill says: “We’re aiming to pick up plenty more wins this year and we believe we can push plenty of teams all the way – the victory over Wakefield was a good start towards that.”

Despite Hull picking up their first win of the season, the Women’s side currently find themselves in an injury rut, with over 10 players finding themselves sidelined.

“These players are a big loss to the group, but I am more than confident that others will step up for us and keep the team pushing forward,” Hill added.

Hull will however be boosted by the return of co-captain and England Community Lions player Ruby Magson-Parkin.

Hill commented: “Having some key players like Ruby coming back into the fold will really help us go to the next level.

“While there is a long way to go this season, hopes are high that the talent of one of the youngest teams in the league can reward the commitment and dedication of the coaching staff and players.”

Hull FC’s Women’s side return to action this Sunday (2.00pm) against Widnes Vikings Women at the University of Hull.
