Brett Hodgson has reviewed his side’s defeat to Wakefield Trinity on Sunday afternoon.

A drop-goal from Jacob Miller in Golden Point Extra Time secured a 19-18 victory for the hosts on a disappointing afternoon for the Black & Whites, having led until the final minute of regular time.

Speaking about the match, Hodgson began by discussing the injury to Jake Connor, and the impact his departure from the field had on the game.

“It looks like a medial ligament injury but we don’t know the extent of how severe it is now – we’ll have to see what the scans say. We’d expect his results mid-week.

“Him going off was a pivotal moment in the game and when you lose a pivotal play goes off in any team, they’d be in the same situation. We lost our way a bit in the second-half and we couldn’t shut the game out.

He continued: “We still had more than enough chances to manage the last 25 minutes of the game.”

Hodgson added: “At times, I think we were penalised harshly which put us under real pressure with penalties and six-agains. We just didn’t get a chance or couldn’t get off our try-line after half-time. We were defending constantly and that saw us run out of gas.

“The two tries that we conceded in the second-half were defendable so we needed to do better in those moments.

“I’m disappointed about today’s result give we were in control of the game, but we need to learn from this like we did in defeat against Castleford, Hull KR, and Huddersfield.”
