Brett Hodgson has reflected on his side’s 33-26 defeat to Castleford Tigers at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Sunday afternoon.

The Black & Whites went down to the Tigers in the round four clash, with Hodgson saying his side got the balance wrong going into the match.

“We spoke all through the week about how it was important to turn up with the right attitude, but we got the whole balance wrong.

“We turned up thinking we could just continue where we left off last week, but you can’t do that against any team in the competition.

” We had some players who were carrying niggles and didn’t train towards the back end of the week, and that showed.

“Fair play to Castleford who turned up and had the right attitude. The start of the second-half was critical; they held the ball really well and we just couldn’t get hold of it.”

Hodgson also confirmed injury to Connor Wynne, adding: ” He got an elbow subluxation which is concerning. We don’t have too many centres left available.

On Darnell McInosh, who missed the clash, he said: “He has a calf strain, so he’ll be missing for a couple of weeks.”

Hodgson also reviewed Kane Evans debut performance.

“It was tough for Kane as it wasn’t the game we’d have wanted to introduce him into for his debut; we were in survival mode when he came on, but he had some nice carries, and went forward with the ball strong.

“A difficult afternoon for him, but he’ll be better for the run out.”

Looking ahead to Thursday’s clash at Headingley, he said: “The four day turnaround is probably better for us. We don’t want to dwell on this result, we weren’t at the races so this week is going to be about our mental fortitude going into Leeds.

“We need to be strong and resilient and put in a performance.”
