Brett Hodgson looks to Saturday’s test against Leigh

Club News

Brett Hodgson has been pleased with Hull FC’s determination to keep fighting in the face of adversity so far this season.

Despite some disappointing results over the last month, Hodgson has been pleased with his side’s continued efforts.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, brought to you in association with Jacuzzi, Hodgson discussed the team’s strength as a group having come out of a tough run of fixtures.

“You need to have a strong group, a happy group and we believe we’ve got that at this club,” he said.

“We just need to continue performing on the field and build off what we’ve done so far.

“It’s been a pretty tough run for us, particularly because we’ve played some really tough teams in a short space of time – there was a six week period where we played Wigan twice, Saints twice, Catalans and Leeds.

“That would be a tough run for anyone in the competition. Even though we didn’t get all the results we wanted in those games, I still thought we stayed strong as a group.

“The willingness to fight against adversity on the field, the willingness to not give up when we weren’t theoretically going great, we didn’t give up huge points against us.

“Now we are beyond that tough period, but it’s an even tougher period coming up now, still going into games with the same level of investment to win those games against teams who are in a different position in the league table.”

Despite sitting bottom of the Super League table with no win in ten matches, Saturday’s opponents have run Catalans and Wakefield close over the last fortnight.

The Centurions have scored a third of their points this season in the last two matches under the stewardship of Interim Coach Kurt Haggerty, steering the ship following the departure of John Duffy.

Hull will head to Leigh Sports Village with their wits about them, with another strong defensive display required according to Hodgson.

“Regardless of their position in the table, when it comes to attacking structure they are dangerous,” he said.

“They threw the ball around a lot against Catalans last week and I thought they were almost good enough to pip them to the post.

“They asked a lot of questions with the ball out of yardage.

“We have to be really focussed and we have to be switched on when it comes to carrying out our processes. Our attention to detail in defensive system needs to be good.

“They’re not far away from their first win of the season, but hopefully that doesn’t come this weekend.”
