Hull FC’s Women’s side fell agonisingly short to Leigh Miners Rangers at Hull University on Sunday afternoon, going down 14-12 in their third game of the season.

A late conversion attempt from Leanne Baggley after the final hooter, which would have salvaged a point for the home side, struck the post.

Hull started brightly in the game, with Alex Parkin claiming a cross-field kick to touch down early on in the first-half to give the hosts the lead.

Defences remained on top though throughout the remainder of the half, as Hull went in at the break with a slender 4-0 lead.

Leigh managed to earn their first score of the game not long after the break bringing the scores to 4-4,

Defences again then started to go against each other with some good tough contact before Leigh managed to get an offload away for the centre to step through and go underneath the sticks, with a conversation to bring the score to 4-10 to the away side.

Jade Key was then sent to the sin bin for a professional foul as a Leigh player broke the line; from the resulting penalty, the halfback from Leigh threw a great pass to the prop who crashed on to the ball and scores out wide.

Hull hit back though, with Cassy Lawson hitting a great lead line to crash over from close range, bringing the scores to 8-14 with just minutes to play/

FC picked up the pace, and some quick hands and great skill from Davinia Richardson saw her dance around her opposition defender and score in the left corner.

As the final whistler blew with the scores at 12-14 in Leigh’s favour, Baggley stepped up with the chance to earn a point for Hull with the boot, but the ball agonisingly struck the post.
