Brett Hodgson has previewed this week’s clash against Wakefield Trinity, and is expecting another eighty minute battle at the KCOM Stadium.

While Trinity are still searching for their first win of the season, Hull remain unbeaten after their opening three league games following last Sunday’s draw against Warrington.

However, despite their league position, Hodgson is under no illusions as to the danger that Wakefield could pose this Friday.

Looking ahead to Friday’s clash, assessing this week’s opposition, Hodgson said: “Wakefield are a very dangerous team. Offensively, they throw plenty of shapes at you even though they are limited without Jacob Miller being there at the moment.

“Joe Weterman is a real ball playing threat in the middle and Mason Lino is a top player as well – I’ve seen plenty of him in the NRL and his shirt kicking game is a real threat.

“They have some forwards too who will ask us plenty of questions.”

He continued: “We’re expecting a war of attrition for eighty minutes. We’re happy to grind the game out if that is what is needed.

“Their game against St Helens was a really tough contest in the first-half and they had to take it up a couple of gears to get past them in the second-half.”

Assessing his own side’s preparations for the match , he added: “We’re limited in preparation due to the short turnaround. We’ve just gone through some stuff we need to fix up for the weekend in some light sessions.

“This week is a big mental challenge – in the first four weeks we have shown progression, so this is just another test in which we need to remain high with our standards.

“This is another big test for us as a group, We’ll be treating it that way. We have a reasonably fit squad so we won’t need to make too many changes to it’s up to the 17 we put on the field to put in another strong performance.”

Hodgson also reflected on the performance of Danny Houghton in last week’s clash, in which he made a record-breaking 85 tackles during the match.

“Danny is a special player. His work-ethic is incredible and it doesn’t surprise me that he just keeps going and going. He is one of those players that never seems to get tired – he was immense.

“He’s part of our captaincy group for a reason, and when he plays well, so does the team. He plays off the back off our forwards so well and I’m really happy with his progression this season.”
