Scott Taylor was “gutted” not to secure victory against Warrington Wolves on Sunday.

The two sides couldn’t be separated after two periods of Golden Point, as the Black & Whites had to settle for a 14-14 draw against the Wolves.

But Taylor feels that Hull didn’t do enough with the ball in Warrington territory to warrant the two points at the KCOM Stadium yesterday.

“It was definitely a point dropped. It was probably the worst we’ve played offensively this season, but at the same time it was probably the best we’ve played defensively all season,” he said in an interview sent exclusively to members first.

“If the game finishes 20 seconds earlier then we win it – no excuses.

“We’ve got a draw which means we still haven’t lost a game under Brett yet, but we’re all gutted in the changing rooms because we know it should have been two points.

“But we can’t hang our heads for too long. Even though it’s a draw, we’ve got to see it as a positive and move onto Wakefield with a short turnaround week.”

The Black & Whites took the lead on three separate occasions in the match, first through a penalty and then twice in the second half through Jake Connor and Carlos Tuimavave tries.

But Warrington stayed with Hull all the way and earned a point in a classic game of rugby league.

Although Taylor feels Hull could have posted more points had they have shown more composure and patience in attack.

“I think we needed to show more patience. We were completing at 0 out of 5 in good ball in that first half. If you’re not getting to a kick then you can’t apply pressure you need,” he said.

“We weren’t smart enough with the ball. There were too many errors and too many forward passes. But our defence held it together, it was absolutely brilliant to see.”
