Debut Delight For Star Man Reynolds

Josh Reynolds reviews his Man of the Match performance against Huddersfield…

Josh Reynolds has spoken of his special debut performance as he took to the field in a Black & Whie jersey for the first time in a competitive match yesterday as Hull opened the new season with victory over Huddersfield.

The stand-off had a lively match, picking up a try on debut and being named both the Betfred and Jacuzzi Elite Performance Man of the Match for his efforts.

In an interview exclusively sent to 2021 members first, speaking to hullfc.com after the game, Reynolds said: “It was great – the game was really fast and had a real attacking feel to it which was awesome for me. For myself, I think I was a bit patchy and have a fair bit to work on, but its round one and there is a long way to go.

“That fast pace we saw today suits me, and it really suits the team as a whole.”

Reynolds praise both the team’s defense from the forwards, and the creativity of the his fellow spine players, adding: “Our forwards showed some unreal defence in the middle too.

“The defensive mindset throughout the pre-season was clear, and we delivered on that today.

“And those boys in the spine did a great job, and that will only get better as time goes on. Sneydy steers the ship, Jake comes up with those special plays and Danny is the heart of the team. His defense is unreal, whacking people every minute and he gets us going forward in attack too.

Explaining his debut try, assisted by half-back partner Sneyd, he continued: “When you have a boot like Sneydy, it would be silly not to use that to our advantage.

“Those early kicks are risky but he is confident in what he does and I enjoy chasing them down and hopefully getting some joy off them.

“In the Captain’s Run, I got a try and Swifty was geeing me up saying I was going to get myself off the nudie – I almost had two but I almost lost my pants in that breakaway!”

Reynolds also commented on his defensive efforts in the display.

“There has always been a stigma that half-backs can’t defend, so I’ve always really tried to get my body into those tackles – I’m probably not the best defender around, but I’d never step out of the way of a tackle.

“I enjoy that side of the game too, you really get amongst it. If we can keep that defence up, we won’t go far wrong.”
