Jake Connor has hailed the performance of teammate Josh Reynolds for his Man of the Match effort on his club debut for the Black & Whites this afternoon.

Reynolds was the stand-out performer on his first competitive game in a Hull FC jersey, picking both the Jacuzzi and Betfred Man of the Match awards, as well as bagging a try in the 22-10 victory over the Giants at Emerlad Headingley Stadium.

On a blustery afternoon in West Yorkshire, Reynolds and half-back partner Sneyd controlled the game throughout with the Airlie Birds picking up their seventh opening round win in eight.

Connor also played his part in the victory, with Hull’s new-look spine impressing throughout the match.

Speaking to hullfc.com, Connor said: “Grub has brought something new to the team in terms of the energy, his kick-chases and working for them one-percenters.

“He leads by example and that shows from him picking up Man of the Match and has led us around the park. Sneydy’s calming influence really added to that.

“He gets stuck in in defence too. He’s only small but he puts his body on the line.

“It’s really important that the spine get on well together. We all have a good relationship and that is really going to help us as a team, particularly in attack.”

On the performance in general, Connor added: “It’s so pleasing to get off to a good start, and to see our effort in the defensive side of things. We put a big emphasis on defending and let attack take care of itself.

“We have worked hard on defence and its something Hodgo want us to be proud of. We’ve really put all the pieces together out there today. We were disappointed to concede with the last play of the game given how well we had done for the rest of the game.”

On new head coach Hodgson, he added: He has brought us a lot closer together this pre-season.

“The relationship with each other means we’re all working harder for each other and helping us learn new things of each other. We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves but its a great start.”
