Marc Sneyd has said the Black & Whites have “turned a corner” in terms of their defensive efforts, which helped them on their way to last night’s play-off victory over Warrington.

The hard-fought 27-14 win at the Halliwell Jones Stadium sees the Black & Whites set up a semi-final against League Leaders Wigan Warriors next week, with FC now just eighty minutes away from a Grand Final appearance at the KCOM Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Sneyd said: “It’s unbelievable. We’ve benefitted from the expansion of the play-offs but it’s a great start for us and we just need to take each game as it comes now, but we’re extremely happy after that.

“Although we was under pressure for long periods of the game, we felt in control of the contest too. We defended our try-line exceptionally in the second-half, even if we was camped in our own end for too long.

“We seem to be getting those little things spot on and working hard for each other – that really bodes well going forward.”

And Sneyd gave individual praise for his fellow half-back partner on the night Carlos Tuimavave.

“Carlos did an outstanding job.

“He is an out and out centre and that is where he enjoys playing his game but he has jumped in at six to help the team out so he needs a massive pat on the back!”

And the half-back believes the Airlie Birds have turned a corner when it comes to their defence, adding: “We’ve talked a lot over the last six weeks about controlling the ball you best you can, especially in games like this against a side like Warrington because they will catch you out.

“But we defended superbly well – our middles were getting up and moving constantly.

“We’ve turned a corner in terms of our defensive efforts. Previously we might gave folded under that pressure.”
