Jake Connor has reflected on a superb personal performance against Hull Kingston Rovers helping the Black & Whites on their way to claiming the bragging rights at the Totally Wicked Stadium last night.

Connor picked up the Jacuzzi Elite Performance Man of the Match award for his efforts in the 31-16 victory, bagging four assists in the full-back position and being a key cog on the way to Hull’s second derby win in 2020.

Speaking on his efforts after the game, he said: “Every time I play in a derby, I always get myself up for it. I was given a fact earlier in the week that every time I’ve scored in a Hull Derby, we’ve gone on to win the game so I was a bit gutted I didn’t get over tonight, but I’ll take the four assists instead!

“I enjoyed my role at full-back. With Shauly out and Josh Griffin unavailable, I’m the next man in line so I had a job to do.”

On the team’s collective efforts in recent weeks, with the Airlie Birds having won three games in a row, he added: “We’re bonding really well.

“It’s taken time which is expected with a new coach, but we’ve fixed up what we needed to and it is coming together well.

“In particular, Jordan Johnstone starting gives us some real energy down the middle, and then Danny Houghton coming off the bench plays the way he does – it’s really working out in the spine.”

Looking ahead to the final stages of the Betfred Super League season, he continued: “Momentum is massive. Regardless of what happens with the end of the season, we have some tough games coming up.

“From the halves to the forwards, we’re all working together collectively and hopefully we can continue this form going forward.”

With Connor leaving the field towards the end of the game, he confirmed the knock to his knee is nothing of concern.

“The knee is fine. I just took a knock which affected me from an old ligament injury back in my days at Huddersfield, but it is nothing to worry about.”
