Hull FC Women’s player Evie Sexton has reflected on an impressive start to her first campaign for the club’s senior side.

The young centre made the step up from the U16s Girls ahead of the start of the Women’s League One campaign, and has enjoyed a stellar start to the 2024 season.

Sexton remarkably scored five tries on debut for the Black & Whites in a 46-0 victory over Wakefield at the DIY Kitchens Stadium, and in total has scored an impressive 12 tries in the first five league games of the year.

On her impressive debut performance in West Yorkshire, Sexton said: “I was so nervous before the game. Having stepped up from the U16s last season, I was worried as to whether I was strong enough for the senior level of the Women’s game.

“But as the match went on, I really got into it – and after I got my first try, I just loved every minute of it.

“To score five tries on debut was so special – I wasn’t expecting anything like that, I was shocked, but I really impressed myself and it’s my proudest moment representing this club so far.”

On the club’s season as a whole so far, Sexton added: “It’s been a really good experience for me. We’ve got a good core of players with plenty of experience in the Women’s game, and a great core of young talent too.

“We’ve really come on this year to play as a team, rather than just individuals. And I think you can see that in our performances.

“We aren’t the finished article, but we’ve given ourselves plenty to build on.

“Personally, I know I am not the finished article either yet. I want to get better as the season progresses – to get fitter, faster, and stronger. This is my first season involved so I know there is plenty of room to improve and grow as a player.

And Sexton admits that the side have lofty ambitions for the remainder of the season.

“Our target is the treble – that’s what we want to achieve. To win the league, the league cup, and finish top of the table is a big ask, but I believe we are capable of achieving that.”

And with the club about to mark its annual Hull&Proud Week, Sexton explains what the club mantra means to her.

“Being from Hull myself, I am ‘Hull&Proud’ – it means a lot to me to represent my hometown side, especially at a time where we’re enjoying some great progression and the women’s game is growing. I’m loving being a part of it.”
