A new format for the Betfred Wheelchair Super League featuring Hull FC been confirmed, with five teams set to play in the competition in 2024, as well the introduction of a newly expanded Wheelchair Championship.

The Black & Whites are joined by Halifax Panthers, Leeds Rhinos, London Roosters and reigning champions Wigan Warriors in Super League, and will begin their campaigns on Sunday 16 June with each team facing ten rounds of fixtures.

The regular season will conclude on Saturday 14 September with the Grand Final taking place on Sunday 13 October – and shown live on Sky Sports (venue TBC).

Last season saw FC come within touching distance of making their first ever play-off appearance, and will be aiming to go one better in 2024 and reach the final four.

Fixtures for the Betfred Wheelchair Super League will be announced in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the expanded Championship, featuring 15 teams, will split over three of three regional conferences – East, South and West.

The three conference leaders will qualify for play-offs with the fourth team coming from a preliminary game between the second placed teams from the Championship East and West. The team that goes onto to win the Grand Final will clinch a spot in the topflight for 2025, alongside the Airlie Birds.

Championship sides will also compete in the Wheelchair Challenge Trophy at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester on Sunday 14 April, with both finalists also earning a spot in a newly revamped Betfred Wheelchair Challenge Cup alongside the five Super League sides and holders Catalans Dragons.

The opening round will take place on Saturday 20 April, with this year’s final will taking place at Sheffield EIS on Saturday 1 June – and shown live on BBC Sport.

The European Club Championship will place on Saturday 6 April when Wigan Warriors make their triumphant return to Robin Park Arena against the Dragons (KO 6pm).
