Everyone at Hull FC would like to wish BBC Radio Humberside’s Gwilym Lloyd a very happy retirement!
After 32 years at the radio station, Gwilym will hang up the microphone for the last time later today.
One of the most recognisable figures and voices of local sports journalism, Gwilym joined BBC Radio Humberside in 1992, reporting on the Black & Whites for over three decades.
He has been a familiar face across the club throughout his time with the station, including commentating on FC’s matches for many years, and being a regular visitor to the club’s facilities for press events.
A much-loved figure amongst playing squads and club staff, Gwilym has brought huge amounts of warmth and humour to the Hull FC community.
Gwilym championed local sport, which also included his coverage of Hull KR, Hull City, the city’s ice hockey sides, and local grassroots sports teams.
Winning multiple awards during his time with the station, including Gillard Gold Awards in 2007 and 2013, and Sony Gold Awards in 2013, he has reported on some of the Black & Whites’ finest moments throughout the modern era, including our Challenge Cup Final victories in 2005, 2016 and 2017.
Supporters can listen to a special edition of BBC Radio Humberside’s Sportstalk show from 6.00pm this evening, looking back on Gwilym’s career.
Happy Retirement, G!
