Hull FC’s Women’s side claimed their first win of the season with a convincing 28-0 victory over Wakefield Trinity on Sunday afternoon.

Back-rower Nat Romano scored a hat-trick, as the home side registered twenty unanswered points in the second-half, despite going down to just twelve players in the closing stages of the match.

Teams News

Due to ten players being unavailable through injury, the Black & Whites named a 16-player squad ahead of the match, but were further depleted having lost Keziah Masike and Heather Taylor in the warm-ups.

However, Hull were strengthened by the return of stand-off Holly Cole after she missed last-week’s close defeat to Stanningley.

Match Report

The opening minutes of the game were plagued by injuries for both teams with a number of players going down before either side could build any momentum.

It was the home side who struck first with Poppy Lyon crossing over in the corner after Wakefield struggled to collect a kick on their line.

Just a few minutes later, Hull added another to their tally as Nat Romano scored her first of the match to round-off the first half tries.

Half-Time: Hull FC 8-0 Wakefield Trinity

The second-half didn’t start well for Hull as Lyon was forced off the field in the opening minutes – FC’s injury tally became even worse on the hour mark later Tilly Stuart left the field, meaning the hosts would play the remainder of the match with just 12 players.

However, Hull didn’t let their disadvantage dishearten them, pulling away from Trinity in the final stages of the game.

Abbi Turner pounced on a ball over the try line to give her side a twelve-point lead, before ex-Wakefield player Leonie Lawson touched down after some continued try-line pressure.

Romano showed her class in the final minutes of the game as she scored two tries in two minutes to secure Hull’s first victory of the season.
