Hull FC Women’s first hit-out of their 2023 Championship campaign ended in a 58-0 defeat to Warrington Wolves Lunas.

The visitors were unable to cross over the whitewash despite periods of sustained pressure against a dominant Warrington side.

Team News

Hull were boosted by the return of centre Lauren Sutton and winger Keziah Masike ahead of their first run-out of the season.

The team featured several of last year’s U16s title-winning players, including Izzy Smith, Amelia Beech, Poppy Lyon and Kacey Sexton.

The Match

Warrington struck early in the match as Jasmine Wilson was awarded an 8-point try just before the 10 minute mark.

The visitors were unable to respond – despite sustained pressure for over ten minutes and an impressive individual performance from Jade Key, they were unable to get points on the board.

The Lunas racked up over a hundred metres for their next three tries, with an Alexis Smith brace and Emily Tandy with the third.

The remaining time in the first half succumbed to injuries with Hull’s Lauren Sutton, Holly Cole and Abby Price all leaving the field.

Half-Time: Warrington Wolves Lunas 26-0 Hull FC Women

Warrington started where they left off at the start of the second-half as they scored three tries in the opening fifteen minutes, with Alexis Smith completing her hat-trick.

But the visitors didn’t give up as they managed to repeatedly stop further tries from all across the attacking line.

Both sides had a player sin-binned with FC co-captain Price being binned twenty minutes before Warrington’s Tandy suffered the same fate.

Warrington used their player advantage well as Wilson and Tandy scored to take the game well out of the visitors reach.

The home sides’ Maddison Price scored the final try of the match despite another period of sustained pressure from Hull in the closing stages of the second half.
