Ben McNamara is looking to impress Tony Smith in the Black & Whites’ pre-season friendlies to help him nail down spot for the start of the season.

The young half, whose campaign was drastically affected by a back injury last season, is now hoping for minutes in the Sheffield and Wakefield game to try and impress Hull’s new head coach.

“For me personally, I would love to nail down a starting spot in the team, and be in the team week in, week out. I think I was heading in a good direction working towards that last season and that was disrupted by injury.

“My goal is to show Tony and the coaches that I can play a big part in our team and obviously with the new boys coming in that we build combinations in these friendlies, with Cliffo and Tex being new into the team.”

He continued: “I feel like I have a lot of unfinished business for me out there on the field, so I really want a big year and nail down that starting spot.

“I will be looking to have a big game in both of these games, and hopefully kick on from that.

“Physically I feel fit and strong, I think this is the best shape that I have had coming into a season, I am really looking forward to getting into it.

McNamara was full of praises for the new facilities down at the University of Hull and explained how the facilities have been helping the team prepare for the up-and-coming season.

“It has made a massive difference, there is a real high-performance feel, and the boys have got a lot out of that.

“The field is always in top condition, so we can get really good quality sessions in, as well as access to two quality gyms.

“There is a vast array of facilities here to really get to the top of our game and to come together as a team.”
