The Hull FC Community Foundation has become one of the first charities in the city to receive funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for it’s ‘Connecting Communities’ project.

Local residents living within the Riverside area of Hull will be able to access health and wellbeing activities in their community following investment into the Hull FC Community Foundation through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The ‘Connecting Communities’ project has been established with an aim of equipping adults with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to achieve better life outcomes.

Inspired by the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’, provision will incorporate skills sessions that empower participants to cope with cost-of-living challenges, rugby-themed creative activities, wellbeing provision, and volunteering and social action opportunities.

Commenting on the programme, which will involve activities initially being run through to the end of March, Head of Foundation James Price believes this is a game changer for the local community.

“Through our work in the community, particularly in the second half of last year, we heard daily from participants about the challenges they were facing in respect of cost-of-living,” he explained.

“We have welcomed the opportunity to work with local residents living in the Anlaby Road, Hessle Road, and Thornton Estate communities to create ‘Connecting Communities’ to involve practical activities that support them through this challenging period’.

With sessions taking place at accessible venues including the MKM Stadium Community Hub, Edinburgh Street Community Centre, West Hull RLFC, and a newly created community ‘Hub’ within the club’s Savile Street retail store, the Foundation is welcoming all residents to attend, find out more about the support available through the Foundation, and take part in activities that support their wellbeing.

Content includes intensity appropriate physical activity, sensory activities for adults with a disability, rugby reminiscence, and practical support for cost-of-living concerns.
