Rugby League may now be into its off-season, but the Hull FC Community Foundation is increasing its volume of sessions to ensure local people stay fit and healthy throughout the autumn and winter.

Rugby League may now be into its off-season, but the Hull FC Community Foundation is increasing its volume of sessions to ensure local people stay fit and healthy throughout the autumn and winter.

Match Fit and Unite Fitness are both free health & wellbeing sessions for men and women, designed to help keep people in shape physically and mentally.

Both projects, which were launched just one year ago, have proved a big hit with participants. Now, the Hull FC Community Foundation is launching its next block of sessions over the autumn and the winter, bringing sessions to multiple locations across the city!

Match Fit is a free health, fitness and wellbeing group for men of varying levels of physical activity, from those just starting on their fitness journey, to regular exercisers.

Three separate Match Fit sessions will take place on a weekly basis, with a timetable of sessions below:

Tuesdays 6pm – 7pm – City of Hull Boxing Club, Orchard Park Road, North Hull, HU6 9BX.

Sessions will include gym training, boxing based fitness e.g. pad work, circuits, HIIT.

Wednesdays 7pm – 8pm – Hull FC Training Ground, 79 County Road North, Hull, HU5 4HN.

Sessions will include gym training based fitness e.g. weights, cardio exercise, boot-camp style training.

Thursdays 7pm – 8pm – Bonus Youth Performance Centre, Pickering Road, West Hull, HU4 6TA.

Sessions will include multi-sports based fitness e.g. touch rugby, football, basketball, sports circuits.

At Match Fit, there will be occasional visits from Hull FC players and other professionals!

Like Match Fit, the female-alternative project, Unite Fitness, has been extended to two sessions per week.

A timetable of sessions for Unite Fitness can be found below:

Tuesdays 6-7.30pm – Bonus Youth Performance Centre, Pickering Road, West Hull HU4 6TA.

Wednesdays 6-7.30pm – Hull FC Training Ground, 79 County Road North, Hull, HU5 4HN.

These classes will involve a 45-minute fitness session that is adaptable to women of all fitness levels, followed by a variety of social and educational empowerment activities.

Some sessions will involve visits from organisations like HEY Mind, nutritionists, personal trainers, sports, and exercise coaches such as Clubbercise and Netball, and other health and wellbeing professionals.

Fitness activities include:

  • Gym e.g Circuit Training, Weight Training, Cardiovascular Training, HIIT Training
  • Variety of sports games e.g rugby, football, tennis, rounders, dodgeball
  • Yoga & Pilates
  • Clubbercise

Classroom-based learning activities include:

  • Visits from Nutritionists, Personal Trainers, Mental Health Professionals
  • Art Therapy
  • & More Social Activities

Both Unite Fitness and Match Fit sessions provide great opportunities to get out of the house and have some important ‘you time’.

Better still, it presents the opportunities to build new friendships whilst keeping in good shape.
