If you have aspirations to be a sports coach, then Hull FC’s Centre of Excellence is the perfect place to begin your journey.

Alongside opportunities to develop as a rugby league player, the Centre of Excellence can provide the chance to open up a variety of pathways into the sporting industry.

One of those particular avenues is sports coaching, where a handful of aspiring students have already begun their respective journeys to becoming coaches.

Matty Watson, who is a second-year student studying a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport at the Centre of Excellence, is one of the few students aspiring to become a coach.

Speaking to hullfcfoundation.co.uk, he said: “I love coming to college at the Centre of Excellence because it offers me a great chance to pursue my dream to become a sports coach.

“The teaching staff here are absolutely first class and they are always on hand to offer me any help and advice. I also think it’s useful that some of the tutors are sports coaches themselves, so you can rely on them to provide tips.

“I think it’s great that the courses that the college provides are suitable for people who want to go into other routes into sport, regardless of whether the student is interested in playing rugby league or not.”

To help Matty with his experience, the Hull FC Community Foundation invited him to work as part of the coaching team to deliver over 850 hours of free camps to local children during the school summer holidays.

On the experience, Matty said: “I’m grateful to the Hull FC Community Foundation for offering me the chance to come down and help run some sessions.

“I found the experience really useful, and without the help of the college staff, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do that over the summer holidays.”

Matty, along with his fellow students at the Centre of Excellence, has recently made the switch to the University of Hull campus, as the 2022/23 academic year got underway earlier this month.

There is still time to secure your place at the sports college for the 2022/23 academic year, with clearing places still available!

So if it’s a career as a rugby league player or a sports coach you are interested in, you can apply to begin your journey here
