Brett Hodgson has reflected on the Black & Whites’ Hull Derby defeat on Saturday afternoon.

It was a poor end to the season for FC, who went down 36-4 to the Robins at the MKM Stadium in the final round of the regular season.

And Hodgson gave an honest assessment of his side’s performance in his post-match press conference.

“Disappointing is probably the least descriptive word you could use for that performance – I’m disgusted that we put in a performance like that in front of such a big crowd. We were aiming to finish the season positively, but to end the season like that is just not acceptable,” Hodgson said.

“I am angry – the performance we put out meant that we didn’t give ourselves a chance of getting back into the game. It’s very difficult to find words right now, but we’re under no illusions that that wasn’t good enough for this club.

“We, and unfortunately the fans too, now have to take that away into the off-season, and it’s going to hurt for a very long time.”

He continued: “We’ve had a tough end to the season and this performance sums up our back end of the year really. For us as a collective to not get up for this game is just not okay – no matter whether that’s performance anxiety or something else.

“I have never known a season like this in terms of adversity, but we had one more eighty minutes to get up for against a side who have also faced a lot of adversity, so we aren’t using that as an excuse.

“There’ll be a few sleepless nights after that performance. We will be in next week to review what went wrong and understand the context of what happened today, and why, before the players break off for the off-season.”

Hodgson finished by addressing the Black & White supporters directly.

“I am personally very grateful for their support. We had a big crowd support us today, but we didn’t reward that as well as we should have. The optimism that I have beyond this season is still there, but today is a tough day and I feel for the fans.”
