The Hull FC Community Foundation has engaged with over 10,000 primary school pupils throughout the 2021/22 academic year as the School Sports Partnership continues to blossom.

The School Sports Partnership offers local primary schools the opportunity to team up with the Hull FC Community Foundation, with qualified sports coaches delivering curricular-based sessions through PE lessons, as well as giving students the chance to attend extracurricular sessions throughout the year.

Throughout the 2021/22 academic year, over 30 schools signed up to be a part of the Community Foundation’s growing School Sports Partnership programme, with schools able to tailor visits to when best suits them.

Breakfast clubs, lunchtime clubs and after-school clubs have all been well-attended this academic year, with over 10,000 engagements through lessons and clubs.

Such has been the engaging nature of the School Sports Partnership programme that over 45% of participants have subsequently watched their first live sports fixture, whilst there has been a 35% increase in community sports participation across a variation of sports.

In addition, over 200 teachers have received specific CPD training in PE, helping their delivery of sessions to primary school children.

Miss Knight, PE Coordinator at Rawcliffe Primary School said: “Hull FC have been fundamental in developing our children’s’ love of sport. The coaches have worked with every year group from Foundation to Year 6, building strong relationships with our whole school community.

“The impact of the kids’ confidence has been tremendous and progress made within the sessions has been outstanding. They look forward to attending the sessions every Friday!”

Sam French, the Community Foundation’s Head of Children & Young People added: “We have had a really good year with the School Sports Programme and it is particularly pleasing to see there is such a strong uptake in sports participation back in the local community.

“Ultimately, the School Sports Programme is designed to better connect local school children to sport, so by delivering our sessions in an engaging way, we are seeing great results of achieving our long-term goal of getting more kids active out in the community, which is what we are seeing more and more of as a result of our delivery in schools.”

In total, the Hull FC Community Foundation has delivered over 6000 hours of sports and learning throughout the academic year – that equates to 250 whole days!
