‘This Ability’ and ‘Create’ learners have completed a Level 3 First Aid course through the Hull FC Community Foundation, boosting their employability skills.

The Community Foundation teamed up with Hull College to help both ‘Create’ and ‘This Ability’ learners to develop their skills, build their confidence and enhance their employment opportunities within the community.

By completing the Level 3 First Aid course, learners have gained key qualifications that will support them in gaining employment.

On top of that, First Aid qualifiers have been working as assistants to project leaders on other programmes within the Hull FC Community Foundation to further develop their confidence and skills.

Alternatively, some have taken up volunteering roles within the club, like local veterans Dennis and Jason, whose stories we brought you last week.

The ‘Create’ programme works in collaboration with the Skills Network to offer unemployed people in the local area with the necessary skills to help them into careers.

Meanwhile, ‘This Ability’ works closely with young people with learning disabilities, helping them get vital work experience to enhance their employment opportunities.

By undertaking the Level 3 First Aid course, all participants have gained vital skills to help them on their way into employment.

Mark Harling, who oversees the ‘Create’ programme said: “It’s fantastic that the Community Foundation has been able to offer these people with the chance to earn a Level 3 First Aid qualification.

“It’s the sort of thing that can open all sorts of doors into employment, which is ultimately what we are trying to achieve through the Create and This Ability projects.

“It has been very rewarding to see such a large number of our learners awarded their Level 3 First Aid Qualifications. They were all buzzing to have passed the course!”

Veteran Jason, who completed the course added: “I did a first aid course a couple of weeks ago. I passed that. If I didn’t there would have been something wrong because I’m a former medic in the military!

“I would just like to thank the Community Foundation for everything that they have helped me with.”
