Brown Recalls Memorable Debut In Perpignan

Jack Brown looks ahead to today’s game against Catalans

This weekend’s game against Catalans Dragons harbours sentimental feelings for Jack Brown, given it was the fixture he made his debut in three years ago.

Brown came off the bench to score with his first touch in a 31-30 victory over Catalans at Stade Gilbert Brutus in 2019, making it a memorable debut in the South of France.

Ahead of this evening’s game against the Dragons, Brown has been reflecting on his debut just over three years ago.

“I just remember being told the day before the game that I was going to be playing and I went into a bit of a state of shock,” Brown told the media in his pre-match press conference yesterday.

“I remember quickly ringing my mum and dad to tell them to book their flights. They were lucky enough to get a flight out of Luton on the day of the game. That was a really special occasion for the family.

“The game went by in a bit of a flash for me. I managed to score with my first touch and that’s pretty much all I really remember from it!

“It definitely seems a long time ago now. It was over three years ago so I’ve played a lot of rugby since then. But it’s nice to look back on those memories.”

Since his debut in 2019, Brown has now become one of the key components in Hull’s pack.

He will be looking to help the Black & Whites onto a ninth Betfred Super League win of the season this evening after Brett Hodgson’s side suffered a Golden Point defeat last time out.

But Hull have typically responded well to defeats in 2022, suffering back-to-back losses only once this year.

“We put a real emphasis on not wanting to suffer back-to-back defeats,” he said.

“There’s not necessarily anything that we would do differently in review after a defeat than we would after a win.

“But you do see how much everyone cares and everyone’s desire to follow up with a win. We highlight what went wrong and we go out to put right those wrongs.”
