Hodgson Previews Two Teams Looking To Respond

Brett Hodgson previews this weekend’s match against Catalans Dragons

Brett Hodgson expects a tough battle against a Catalans Dragons side licking their wounds from a defeat to Huddersfield at Stade Gilbert Brutus last week.

The Dragons were slayed by the Giants in France last Friday, before Hull lost in Golden Point to Wakefield on Sunday.

Subsequently, Hodgson is expecting a fierce tussle between the two sides tomorrow evening, with the two sides looking to get back in the winner’s circle.

“I saw a Catalans team that looked off in that particular performance, and I think Steve McNamara said that after the game, as well,” Hodgson said.

“So we are expecting a response from them, just as we are looking to respond to a defeat ourselves.

“We’re going to be tested with the heat conditions but we have a plan of how to cope with that.

“We want to challenge ourselves, especially after last week’s result, against one of the best teams in the competition.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing us head down there and putting in a solid performance.”

The Black & Whites lost Jake Connor to injury in that 19-18 defeat to Wakefield in Round 13, and later scans revealed the extent of the fullback’s injury.

Connor will miss ten to twelve weeks of action with a medial ligament injury, but Hodgson insists that his side won’t go into their shells despite losing one of their key playmakers.

“I don’t want us to go there and play one out. I want us to play and move them around a little bit,” he said.

“We’re not a one man team – the players all know that. We need to make sure we’re all contributing this weekend.”
