Hull FC trio Chris Satae, Joe Lovodua, and Kane Evans have all been named in Fiji’s training squad ahead of the Rugby League World Cup later this year.

Coach Joe Rabele has named a 50-man squad as preparations for the tournament ramp up, with Fiji set to be based in the city of Hull throughout the duration of the tournament.

Lovodua and Evans have caps and World Cup appearances under their belt, while Satae is called up to the Fiji squad for the very first-time, qualifying to represent the country through his grandparents.

Evans made his first professional appearance in the sport while representing Fiji during the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, pulling on his nations jersey in all five of their matches during the tournament, including their clash against England at the MKM Stadium.

He also featured in the 2017 tournament down under, but had his tournament cruelly cut short due to injury after just one game – in total, he has played 13 times for his nation.

Meanwhile, Joe Lovodua has found himself as Fiji’s first choice hooker since his debut in the 2017 tournament, playing eight times for his nation, including in their memorable quarter-final victory over New Zealand, and semi-final loss to Australia.

Fellow Super League stars Korbin Simms,  Jason Qareqare and King Vuniyayawa are all named in the squad, alongside notable NRL players Kevin Naiqama, Maika Sivo, Taane Milne, Tariq Sims, and Vilame Kikau.

Hull’s players will be aiming to make the final cut for the June test match against the PNG Kumuls in Australia, with the squad being reduced to 30 men.

Fiji start the competition against the current holders Australia at Headingley Stadium before heading up north for two games at Newcastle Thunder’s Kingston Park against Scotland and Italy.
