Brett Hodgson has provided reaction to his side’s Good Friday Derby defeat.

The Black & Whites went down 16-4 to the Robins on a disappointing afternoon at Sewell Group Craven Park.

Speaking after the game, Hodgson said: “It’s a tough result to take – our performance didn’t do the Hull Derby justice.

“It was a poor quality game in the first-half and they ultimately got the better of us in completion in the second-half.

“We only completed at 55% in the game so we didn’t give ourselves enough chances down their end of the field. I felt that during the game, we didn’t understand that what we was trying wasn’t working for us, and we didn’t get back into the contest from that. We didn’t give ourselves a chance.

He added: “There were several individuals who tried out there, but our key individuals on the field needed to be better. Some of those like the big play, but if they don’t come off, their heads drop. We needed to be more patient.

“Our spine was off today- they’re the ones that control our field positions and game plan. It’s up to them to understand the context of the game, if we’ve made errors, we need to earn the right to compete again.

“After their first try after half-time, we saw our heads drop. We need to look at that if we want to get back to winning ways on Monday.

“We have to find a way to win again, whether that’s by one point or better than that – we just need some confidence back and learn how to deal with pressure and adversity.”

Looking ahead to the Easter Monday clash with the Wolves, he continued: ” It doesn’t get any easier. Warrington will be confident after their win on Friday. We’ll get some clarity from the players on their thoughts on the performance and go again.”

On the injury front, he commented on Andre Savelio who didn’t reappear for the second-half.

“Andre felt a pop in his knee – he was able to continue initially but we don’t know what he’s done.”
