Members of Hull FC’s Academy squad have spent the morning playing their part in supporting the ‘Hull 4 Ukraine’ appeal at a local donation centre.

Hull’s communities have come together in recent weeks to collect and deliver humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine who have been heavily affected by the Russian invasion.

Local community and volunteer organisatsions, many of whom have played a major role in delivering support during the Covid-19 pandemic, have partnered up with Hull City Council to coordinate the aid response.

Zach Jebson, Leon Stewart, Logan Moy, Junior Mafi, Sam Richards and Alfie Oldridge all gave up their own time on Wednesday morning to visit a donation point in Hull City Centre and offer a helping hand.

The players assisted volunteers in sorting through the mountains of donations, which will be parcelled up and sent across to Poland to help those fleeing the conflict.

Speaking to hullfc.com, Helen Skinner, who is part of the team behind the appeal, said: “

We’ve got lots of volunteers who are sorting through piles of donations, which get sorted into boxes, put onto the pallets, and transported over to Poland.

“We couldn’t do this without those volunteers. They’ve been here all day, every day for the past few weeks.

“We’ve already sent five lorries to Poland and one to Romania, so the scale of the donations has been huge. We’ve had vans coming from all cross the region, from Driffield, Bridlington, Harrogate, and all over the city of Hull.

“The people of Hull, the East Riding, and further afield have been fantastic, and clearly want to do their part to help.”
