Taking part in Magic Moments at tomorrow afternoon’s match against Huddersfield are junior players from local amateur club Myton Warriors, so keep an eye out for their Green & Red colours around the MKM Stadium.

Myton Warriors ARLC are based in the northern area of Hull, formed 25 years ago in 1997.

The club trains and plays at Marist Playing Fields on Cranbrook Avenue, located just a stone’s throw from the University of Hull.

Initially, the club was called Bay Horse ARLFC, playing in Division One of the Hull & District League. The committee was approached by the Northern Dairies youth section, and a proposal was submitted to merge the open age and youth section. After a year, this merger came to fruition to yield Myton Warriors as we know it today.

After three years of playing at a local high school, Marist Rugby Union Club kindly approached the Warriors and invited them to share their playing and training facilities. The Marist ground has ever since been home to Myton.

Developments at the facility have enabled both Rugby League and Rugby Union to be played at the ground, with both days across a summer or winter weekend accommodating an amateur fixture or event.

The Myton Club was a member of the Yorkshire League for seven years. In the 2005/06 campaign, they gained promotion to the Premier League after winning the Senior Division and the subsequent play-offs.

An almighty effort in the following season saw the Warriors finish runners-up in both the Premier League and the play-offs. It was in the 06/07 season that Myton won the Yorkshire League Cup.

The club has since become a member of the NCL, during which time they have been crowned Division 2 champions, as well as reaching the Premier League Grand Final in 2012. Just six years ago, the Warriors reached the BARLA National Cup Final, but came up short to Thornhill Trojans in the showpiece event.

As well as the open age team, Myton provides opportunities for youngsters to get involved in Rugby League, too, with teams spanning from ages between Under 5s and Under 18s.

A handful of Hull FC superstars have come through the amateur ranks at Myton Warriors, including the legends Richard Horne and Kirk Yeaman.

Their most recent prodigy is perhaps Davy Litten. Although he is yet to make his first team debut for the Black & Whites, there are hopes that the young fullback has a prosperous future ahead of him.
