Hull FC Sports College student Harry Trulson has been named in a 26-man England Universities squad for their set of fixtures throughout 2022.

19-year-old Trulson is the only player in the 26-man squad to be carrying out his academic studies through a professional club’s education programme at Hull FC’s Sports College within the Centre of Excellence – all other students are based at a traditional university.

Trulson, who can operate in most roles inside the pack, made his rugby league breakthrough at local amateur club Hull Dockers.

Having gained plenty of experience whilst initially playing for Hull FC’s Sports College, the Academy, and more recently with Hull FC Reserves, the young forward has impressed and has earned his place in Richard Tate’s 26-man squad by working his way up through the ranks.

Trulson also featured in the University Rugby League Origin game at Loughborough University last month, helping the North defeat the South 36-20 in February.

Speaking to hullfc.com, Trulson said: “It’s such a big opportunity for me in my career and I’m very grateful for the opportunity that has been given to me.

“I’m really looking forward to the training sessions and even more so the games, which I’ll be working really hard towards playing in.

He added: “Since I came to the Centre of Excellence at Hull FC, I feel I have developed so much as a player. I understand far more about Rugby League now than I did a year or two ago, so that has massively helped me on the field.”

Alongside Trulson in the England Universities squad is his Hull FC Reserves team mate Leon Stewart, who studies at the University of Hull.

England Universities will begin their schedule of annual fixtures later this month, when they take on Great Britain Teachers at Saddleworth ARLFC on Wednesday 30th March.

The university squad will also face Great Britain Police, HM Prison Service and the UK Armed Forces in preparation for the Student Four Nations competition, which takes place in Ireland in June.
