Johnny Whiteley MBE

A series of commemorations will take place ahead of kick-off as the club remember club legend Johnny Whiteley MBE, who sadly passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday evening.

Members who wish to lay floral tributes can do so at the Jack Harrison VC MC memorial outside West Stand main reception, while supporters can also sign the club’s book of condolence in the stadium’s dugout bar from 9.00am.

A commemorative match day programme will be on sale around the ground, looking back on the life with tributes from Rev. Tony Cotson, Danny Houghton, and Adam Pearson.

Ahead of kick-off, supporters will be able to take a look back at a timeline of Johnny’s life with a series of family and club achieve photographs, while supporters will be asked to collect a JW13 fan card on their way into the ground, which are to be held aloft during the minutes silence.

A video paying tribute to Johnny’s life will be accompanied by a live performance of Abide By Me by Lizzie Jones MBE.

Representatives from West Hull ARLFC which Johnny helped set up in the 1960s will be in attendance, as well as the Ex-Players Association.

Wreaths will be laid by both Luke Gale and James Roby, as well as representatives from the RFL, and the City Council, before a reading from Club Chaplain Reverend Tony Cotson.

The match ball will be delivered by Johnny’s great grandchildren Jack and Leo under military escort, before a minute’s silence will take place.
