Swift Looks Ahead To 2022

Adam Swift looks ahead to the 2022 campaign

Adam Swift is looking forward to his third season at Hull FC after finishing 2021 campaign as the club’s top try scorer in all competitions.

The fleet-footed winger finished on 14 tries in league and cup last season, a figure which could have been more had a freak incident not ruled Swift out for the last few games.

But having shrugged off that foot injury, Swift has been working hard to get back up to speed in pre-season training over the last two months, targeting a return to form in 2022.

“It was a frustrating end to the year not just on the results front but also suffering an injury that kept me out of the last few games,” Swift said.

“It was a much better season for me in 2021 than my first year at Hull, so it’d have been nice to finish on a high note but it wasn’t to be after a freak accident at home.

“I dropped a boiling pan of water on my foot – total freak accident. I went to A&E to get it sorted but there was no chance of me playing in those last few games. I couldn’t even get my shoe on, let alone play a game of rugby. So it was a sad way to end the season on a personal note.

“But signing a two-year extension with Hull earlier this year was a big relief for me because I’ve loved my time at the club and my family are loving it over here, too.

“Coming off the season I had in 2021, I’m looking to take that kind of form into 2022 with me.”

Assisted by a dangerous left edge, Swift’s second campaign with the Black & Whites ran far more smoothly than the first, which was stifled by injury.

Playing alongside the likes of Josh Griffin, Manu Ma’u, and on several occasions the young, talented centre Cam Scott, Swift enjoyed a fruitful 2021 season.

Add international halfback Luke Gale to the frame, and the outside back could be looking at another prosperous season under Brett Hodgson.

“I think our edge would be up there as one of the best in the league at full strength,” he said.

“You’ve got Gale, who’s played in a lot of the big games. And there’s tough players inside me like Manu Ma’u and Josh Griffin.

“It’s a solid edge and some of the stuff we’ve been working on in training has been really good over the last couple of weeks, especially, so hopefully we can carry that into the start of the season.”
