Kane Evans was given a warm reception by his new Hull FC team mates on his first day training with the club yesterday.

The Fijian international landed in a wintery England setting on Sunday and less than 24 hours later he was in for day one at the Jacuzzi® Elite Performance Centre.

In his first interview with hullfc.com, Evans has discussed what his first day with the Black & Whites looked like.

“Yesterday was a bit of a recovery day for me because of the two days of travelling I had done,” he said.

“Paul [Hatton] has been really good with me. I got a good flush on the watt bike in the morning and then I had a little massage. I also got to do a little bit of recovery in the hot tub, which was pretty cool!

“I was supposed to wrap up for the day there, but I decided to get stuck into a weights session in the afternoon because I was falling asleep through the jet lag!”

There are one or two familiar faces within Brett Hodgson’s squad that Evans knew prior to arriving yesterday morning, including former Paramatta Eels team mate Manu Ma’u.

Forwards Chris Satae and Ligi Sao have also encountered Evans before, having played against the prop back in Australia.

But Evans particularly enjoyed meeting his new comrades yesterday, and he was grateful for the warm welcome he received from the group.

“I really enjoyed getting to know everybody. All of the boys have a really good energy and they’ve given me such a warm welcome, so I feel at home already,” he explained.

“From what I’ve heard, Hull has some really good spots which I’m looking forward to checking out.

“It’s taken a bit of getting used to the temperature – it was about 27 degrees when I left a few days back. Literally, when I left the airport at Manchester it started snowing and that was the first time I had ever seen snow!”
