Over 1,500 children took part in the Hull FC Community Foundation’s free summer camps during the school holidays!
In partnership with Hull City Council, the Community Foundation delivered over 800 hours of free summer camps during the school holidays, with activities including rugby, dance classes, multi sport and disability sport.
As children head back to school for the new academic year this week, the summer camps have now come to a close, after a total of 70 different locations were visited by the Hull FC Community Foundation throughout the six-week holiday period.
Local community clubs West Hull, Myton Warriors, Hull Wyke and East Hull were all involved in the summer camps, with great feedback returned from those who took part.
The camps formed part of the Government’s Holiday Activity & Food Programme, with the project aimed towards helping children return to active lifestyles as the country recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Having engaged with over 1500 local youngsters, Head of the Hull FC Community Foundation James Price said: “I am thrilled to have seen how successful our summer camps proved to be.
“These free camps were purposely created to help children get back into physical activity after what has been a very challenging period throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. To see such high levels of participation has been extremely satisfying.
“Not only will the camps have impacted the physical wellbeing of the children who took part, but the mental benefits of coming along and taking part in sport are just as important.
“I also want to thank our Community Foundation staff who have helped co-ordinate these camps over the last six weeks.”
