Brett Hodgson has reacted to his side’s disappointing defeat to Salford Red Devils yesterday on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Black & Whites went down 42-14 to Richard Marshall’s side at the AJ Bell Stadium on an afternoon to forget in Greater Manchester.

Hull found themselves leading in the contest until mid-way through the second-half, when a flurry of tries from the Red Devils took the scoreline away from the Airlie Birds.

Speaking after the match, Hodgson said: “I’m really disappointed. We’re hurting at the moment because we didn’t show the character that we have done for a number of weeks, and that result came off the back of that.

“It’s back to the drawing board this week and we need to fight through that lack of confidence in our upcoming games.”

He continued: “Our set endings were poor, and we failed to apply any pressure, They ran harder than us and defender better than us, ultimately. We lacked the resilience to be able to defend Salford’s efforts.

“We need to work on the simple things; running harder than the other team. Some individuals are lacking that at the moment as we got rolled down the middle of the park. We’ll have some honest conversations this week.

“We seemed to come here with a survival mentality, rather than going after them, which is what we planned to do. We didn’t apply the pressure which we have done in previous weeks. And to leak 42 points is not acceptable.

Hodgson added: “We’re too far away from where we want to be right now. While there is a mathematical chance that we can make the play-offs, we need to rely on other teams around us losing – we need to win our last three, and fighting as hard as we can. But if we play like we did today, we won’t be there.”
