Joe Cator has assessed this evening’s trip to face Catalans Dragons at the Stade Gilbert Brutus, and has outlined his belief in the team to perform.

The Black & Whites head to the South of France missing a number of first team players including co-captain Marc Sneyd, Jake Connor and Chris Satae, but Cator has reiterated his belief in the players available to perform well against the Dragons.

With a debut beckoning for some of Hull’s younger stars, Cator has explained how the team must maintain their discipline and stick to head coach Brett Hodgson’s game plan to come out on the right end of the scoreboard.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Cator said: “For us to win tonight we have to approach the game in the same way as we would every game. We have to run hard, tackle hard. It might be a cliché but it’s true, that we’ve also got to complete high, and our discipline needs to be good. I think our discipline has cost us a few times in the last few weeks, so we need to make sure our discipline is good.

“The weather is going to be really hot over there as well so I think that’s’ going to be tough for both packs and it will be really important for us to start well, and when the subs come on they give us the extra impact and energy that we need, because it’s going to be 35 degrees over there.

We need to make sure we out enthuse them, be disciplined because I think the discipline gives them piggy backs and just puts them under the pump so we’re confident of going over there and getting a result.

Cator explained that despite the Airlie Birds not having the usual number of supporters backing them, the team can’t let that affect performance at Stade Gilbert Brutus, saying: “Catalans is never an easy place to go, and their fans are incredibly vocal, getting on the referee’s back and putting their opposition under pressure, so it’s going to be difficult without a big travelling Hull FC support but we know they’ll be there in spirit and we’ll be doing what we can to take the points back home with us.

Catalans are a very physical side, and you have to match that physicality. I believe when we played them at home we matched them for long periods and I feel like we dominated their back five coming out of their end, so I think we just need to do the same again, but we need to maintain that intensity and discipline for 80 minutes as well.

I believe we’re better for playing them at the start of the season, and that we’ve learnt from our mistakes that night, and we can give it our all and stick to our game plan that we can come away with the points.
