Carlos Tuimavave has assessed the challenge ahead this evening as the Black & Whites prepare to take on reigning Betfred Super League champions St Helens.

However, the centre says Brett Hodgson’s men go into the game with confidence thanks to their recent impressive performances, including last week’s hard-fought defensive effort against Leeds.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Tuimavave explained: “Saints are always setting the standards in the competition and have been the top team for a number of years now.

“We know how tough it is going to be but we need to keep playing the way we have been doing.

“Playing anyone after a loss usually means they turn up the week after and are keen to prove any doubters wrong.”

On his own battle against either of Saints’ potential opposite centres, he added: “Jack Welsby and Mark Percival are both very talented players.

“It’s a real challenge whoever I come up against as they’re both in top form.”

But Tuimaveve decried FC’s confidence going into the game, adding: “We’ve got confidence against whoever we play. We have recovered well this week and trained hard.

“We want to win every week but after the game against Catalans, we needed a good response and we got that last week. And that helps us going into a big one like this”

Tuimavave also described one of the moments of the match last week which helped the Black & Whites on their way to victory.

The centre was involved in a remarkable try saving tackle on Tom Briscoe in the second-half.

“It happened quite fast to be honest. He rolled and I was able to get on top of him and hold the ball up.

“I think I was quite lucky but it proved to be a pivotal moment. I didn’t know which way it was going to go when it went up to the video referee.

“I knew I’d held him up for a little while but he managed to get it down eventually on the second attempt.”
