Adam Swift has reflected on Sunday’s victory over Leeds Rhinos at Emerald Headingley Stadium, explaining that despite further improvement needed for Hull’s attack, the Black & Whites’ defence once again stood out.

Swift picked up the Jacuzzi Elite Performance Man of the Match award having added another two tries to his 2021 tally on the night, continuing his fine form so far this season.

Hull enjoyed some attacking success in the first-half, with all three tries being scored down the left edge before the break. However, the 28-year old says further work is required to fine tune FC’s attack this season having been restricted to their own half for much of the match after the break.

Speaking after the match, in an interview exclusively sent to 2021 members first, Swift said: “We’re winning some games ugly at the moment – our defence is looking outstanding, we’ve still got some work to do with our attack and I think the second-half showed that.

“We couldn’t get away from defending our line, but we’re ecstatic with that result to come here and get the win.

“Our defence at the moment is sublime, but our attack clearly needs some work to match that.”

“We defended for 30 minutes in that second-half and managed to keep Leeds to just one try, which is an incredible effort. They’re a good attacking side too with Luke Gale and Richie Myler. But we had a couple of big plays, particularly with Carlos’s try-saver, just shows how hard we are working for each other right now.”

On his own personal performance and recent form in 2021, he added: “It’s great to get the tries, but the result is the main thing.

“Jake and Griff did all of the hard-work for my two tries though, and I was just on the edge to mop up and finish them off.

He continued: “This season is completely chalk and cheese compared to last year. I’m enjoying my rugby and being here with the boys. I have my own little family down here in Hull now, and I’m delighted with the way things are going right now.”

Swift also commented on the ongoing success of the Black & Whites left edge, from which all three of FC’s tries came last night, featuring the likes of Josh Griffin, Manu Ma’u, and Swift himself.

“We’re building week after week, and putting a good few performances as an edge together, particularly with Sneydy and Jake coming round. Our attack will keep improving with the spine we have. “

And Swift explained the importance of the result, showing a response to last week’s defeat, and by hitting some form before heading into a tough double header against St Helens in the league and cup.

“We needed a good response, particularly going into two games against the champions. So this week was a good stepping stone to get back into some form.

“It’ll be a tough old battle next week. They’ll be licking their wounds after their first defeat of the season but it’s sure to be a cracker.”
