Chris Satae has highlighted the importance of turning Hull FC’s home form around in 2021.

Not only have defensive attitudes been at the forefront of Brett Hodgson’s plans since arriving in the off-season, but the head coach also wants to make the KCOM Stadium a fortress again.

Hull are unbeaten in their first two home fixtures of the 2021 campaign, an encouraging start for prop forward Satae.

“I don’t like to talk about our records from previous years too much, but our home form over the last couple of years has been pretty poor,” Satae said in an interview sent exclusively to members first.

“One of the first things Hodgo wanted to change when he first arrived was making our home a fortress and make sure it is a tough place to come.

“It’s about barring up in defence and making sure teams hate coming to our fortress.

“Our ethos is to make sure we are there for one another, trust each other and grind out the win and that’s what we did on Friday night.”

Despite Hull’s 20-14 victory over Wakefield being a little rough around the edges on Friday night, the defensive resilience was once again there to see as the Black & Whites continue towards building a reputation as a steely, resolute squad.

Trinity managed to score their tries off a length-of-the-field break, a charge down and a kick – not once was the Hull line breached via a Wakefield pass.

“The theme of our pre-season is making sure that our defence is up to scratch,” Satae said.

“We’ve set the standard very high after the first couple of games and we’d like to keep it that way.

“We keep turning up for each other and all of the boys have been great so far.

“We all know that we’re tired and fatigued during stages of the game, but the key thing is knowing that your mate is right next to you and knowing that they will back you up.

“That makes the whole task a lot more enjoyable.”
