Josh Reynolds has expressed his excitement to be part of the Black & Whites’ new-look spine for the 2021 Betfred Super League campaign.

The former New South Wales representative is set to make his competitive Hull FC debut on Sunday as Brett Hodgson’s side open their account for the year against Huddersfield Giants at Emerald Headingley Stadium.

And Reynolds, who joined the club from NRL side Wests Tigers in the off-season, says promising signs were shown in FC’s pre-season clash against York less than a fortnight ago.

Speaking in his pre-match press confernece, Reynolds said: “It was a solid start against York. Marc and Jake have played together a lot over the last couple of years, so for myself, it was just about fitting in and finding out what I can add to the spine.

“Sneydy is great at getting the boys around the park – we saw that at York, and me and Jake can play on the back of that.

“They are two completely different players but together, they can combine and come up with those big plays.”

He added: “Danny Houghton is so important to that spine too. He leads the forwards around the park and his defence is next level. He is a massive part of what we are about and I’m excited to be part of it.”

With Reynolds set to pull on a Black & White jersey for the first time in a competitive clash on Sunday, Reynolds believes he doesn’t need to “prove a point”, and wants to enjoy his rugby in 2021.

“A lot of people are saying that I’m here to prove a point, but that’s not the case – I’m here to enjoy playing Rugby League.

“I’ve had a tough couple of years and didn’t really feel wanted at the Tigers, so to come over to a big club and have everyone embrace me is a great feeling which is going to push me on to play some good footy.

“It has been everything I wanted here so far, apart from the lockdown.”

Looking ahead to the game itself, a mouth-watering battle between Reynolds and Giants’ stand-off Aidan Sezer is in store.

While Reynolds is two years older than Sezer, the pair both came through the youth ranks at Canterbury Bulldogs at a similar time, and regularly trained together during their younger days.

“We’ve had some good clashes in our time – a lot of people don’t know that we come from the same area back home in Sydney. We used to run together and he was always behind me when he was a young little toddler,” he joked.

“I was very shocked when he left the NRL as he was in great form at the Raiders, but he’s come over here and is really controlling games, so I’m really happy for him.

“But I’ll have to keep a lid on him of we’re going to get the win on Sunday!”
