Hull FC can confirm that Jamie Shaul is expected to face an extended spell on the sidelines due to an ACL knee injury, but the club will still honour their contract offer to the player.

The long-serving full-back suffered significant damage to his knee during Sunday’s 48-6 victory over Castleford Tigers at the KCOM Stadium, including a ruptured ACL.

Shaul is expected to be out of action for a lengthy period of time following surgery in the coming weeks.

The 28-year-old was off-contract at the end of this season, but the club had made him an offer to extend his time with the Black & Whites prior to the injury which they will honour.

The Challenge Cup winner has scored 100 tries in 176 games for the Black & Whites, since his debut in 2013, making him the club’s fourth highest try-scorer in the Super League era.

Hull FC interim head coach, Andy Last, said: “We are all really disappointed with news, none more so than Jamie, but as a club we will ensure he gets the support and medical care he needs to help him through this period.

“I’m really pleased for him that the club have stood by their offer which will give him some peace of mind and security, which will enable him to focus fully on his recovery.”
