Champions on the field and top of the class off it too – Hull FC’s Centre of Excellence students are celebrating their best ever education results on Results Day 2020!

All students who took their BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport course achieved or surpassed their target grade, with a third of all learners achieving a ‘Distinction *’, the highest grade attainable.

Meanwhile, all learners already have their immediate futures secured thanks to their positive results, with 66% progressing into higher education and 34% having already secured full-time employment thanks to their results.

Elsewhere, from our NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Sport and Exercise Pathway), 97% of learners passed the course, while 93% will be progressing onto further education with our Level 3 Extended Diploma.

Whilst excelling in their academic studies, the students have also transferred that success on to the field as the Hull FC Centre of Excellence Development Squad claimed the National Championship.

After a truncated season due to Covid-19, Hull FC’s 16-18 year old development squad was handed the title, backing up a third place finish last season.

The Centre of Excellence offers an unrivalled rugby league programme combining coaching, development and education to give young players and students the very best opportunity to progress into professional sport – both playing and off field roles.

It is also the next step on the Hull FC pathway to academy and first-team for elite minded students, proudly representing our club and sharing our values, aspirations and club colours from scholarship to first-grade.

It provides young rugby league players or budding sports professionals a tailor-made route for a career in sport, removing all the traditional limitations of other providers as well as offering first-hand experience in a professional club.

Student Jackson Davies Barker commented: “I am really happy with the grades I have managed to achieve!

“Continuing to work throughout lockdown was a lot more difficult than I first thought it would be, but with support from my tutors I was able to reach my potential and over achieve against my target grade.”

Fellow student Kai Green added: “The grades I have achieved have allowed me to progress into further education which I have decided to do with Hull FC College through their HND program.”

Hull FC’s Head of Foundation James Price commented: “On behalf of the Hull FC Centre of Excellence, I want to congratulate all our students for their tremendous results they have received today.

“It is the firm result of their hard work and dedication they have shown on what has been a challenging year. They have continued to adapt and have been rewarded today. We wish them the best of luck as they embark on new challenges at University, within further training courses, and employment.

“I would also like to thank the team of tutors within the college who have inspired the students to achieve these results today, along with our partners at Bishop Burton College.  It shows that together we continue to provide an engaging and supporting environment that allows all students to excel.

“For anybody thinking about their next step in Sport, I would encourage them to really consider the Hull FC Centre of Excellence.”

Hull FC’s widely-acclaimed education pathway for post-16 leaners has been in place for almost a decade, but developed a new-look sports college in 2017.

Working in partnership with the likes of Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ Bishop Burton College and SCL Education, who also support clubs like Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Leicester Tigers and Bristol Bears, the Hull FC Centre of Excellence provides a high-quality and bespoke education offer.

Aside from their education, the students are also given the opportunity to undertake a full-time professional rugby league development programme with our professional coaches, as well as work experience in sport.

Led by our team of international standard coaches, including England RL Academy coaches and current and former professional rugby league players, our Development Squad claimed the National Development League title, with four students progressing to the Hull FC Academy Squad.

The Hull FC Centre of Excellence is based in Hull on Pickering Road and open to all students, including additional programmes for those without aspirations to be a professional rugby league player, but have a keen interest in the game or a career in sports performance or administration.

Other great benefits for students include free tickets Hull FC matches, free training kit, discounts at club outlets, free travel cards and discounts at local restaurants and retailers across the city.

Following the challenges presented by Covid-19, the Hull FC Centre of Excellence is still open for applications and offering unconditional enrolment to support all students.
