Strong carrying prop forward Matty Laidlaw is a powerful front rower, difficult to bring to a halt.

Despite not being offered an Academy contract initially, Laidlaw impressed with some barnstorming performances through Hull FC’s college development side, eventually earning himself an Academy contract.

His impressive form continued into his debut Academy season in 2021, and in 2022, the prop forward was selected to represent Yorkshire Academy in the War of the Roses series.

In May 2022, Laidlaw was called up to the Rising Stars group to train with the first-team before making his Hull FC Super League debut against Hull KR at Magic Weekend in Newcastle in July 2022.

In the same year, Laidlaw played a number of games for Hull’s Academy outfit, helping them reach the play-off semi-finals.
