The 42-year-old is highly regarded in the game and joins the club in 2020 from Widnes Vikings where he has been Head Coach and now becomes the first appointment to a revised coaching setup.

Purtill, who is one of the highest qualified coaches in the country, is a new Assistant Coach at Hull FC, where he will focus on attacking structures, as well as taking the lead role with the club’s Emerging Talent Squad.

This will also include the head coach role of the club’s reserves team, utilising his extensive experience in this field to help bring through the next generation of young players.

His impressive coaching CV has included similar roles with St Helens and Huddersfield Giants, picking up invaluable experience with playing squads that have played in Grand Finals, Challenge Cup Finals and World Club Finals.

More recently, as Head Coach of Leigh Centurions, he guided them the Championship Shield Final with a run of 15 wins from 19 games, as well as steering a young Widnes team to the 1895 Cup Final at Wembley.

Purtill, a former Wigan and Leigh scrum half, also has international coaching experience as England Knights Head Coach, winning the 2012 European Cup, as well as England Academy Coach and Canada Rugby League Head Coach.

His vast experience means he is also well-known to a number of the club’s current squad, having coached the likes of Danny Houghton and Scott Taylor in the Knights programme, Adam Swift at St Helens and Jake Connor at Huddersfield Giants.
