It was a heavy defeat for the Black & Whites on Derby Day, going down 40-0 to Hull KR at the MKM Stadium.

Ryan Hall scored a hat-trick as the visitors dominated the contest from start to finish.

KR ran in seven tries in total as Tony Smith’s men failed to register a point.

Team News

Smith made five changes to the side that lined-up against Warrington last week.

Jamie Shaul made his first start of the season, coming in at full-back, while Ben McNamara was also included in the halves having recovered from a shoulder injury.

Ligi Sao also returned having served his one-match suspension, while Mitieli Vulikijapani was named on the bench for his first appearance of the season.

Darnell McIntosh also returned to action after appearances in the FC reserves side.

Tex Hoy dropped out with a hamstring injury, with Davy Litten, Joe Lovodua, Danny Houghton, and Andre Savelio also dropping out after last week’s match.

The Match

After the sides traded some early blows, the Robins opened the scoring in the ninth minute; a kick up into the corner was patted back by Shaun Kenny-Dowall, and ended up in the hands of Ryan Hall who went over unopposed in the corner. Coote converted.

The Robins had a second try eight minutes later; Jamie Shaul made a mistake by trying to retrieve a hugh bomb with his foot, but the ball bounced away, allowing Tom Opacic to pick up and touch down under the sticks, Coote made it two kicks from two.

KR extended their lead when Coote knocked over a penalty goal with 13 minutes left in the half.

The Black & Whites were dealt a blow before half-time when Jake Clifford withdrew with a lower leg injury. James Batchelor was sent to the sin-bin for his role in the indecent.

It looked like KR would end the half with 12 men with after dangerous looking cannonball tackle from Sauaso Sue, but he went unpunished.

KR went further ahead when James Batchelor hit a gap and strolled over. Coote made it four with the boot.

Matters got worse for Hull when Willie Peters’ men broke down the left flank through Ryan Hall two minutes later, and passed inside to Lachlan Coote to finish off the move. He converted his fifth of the afternoon.

The visitors went further ahead as the game progressed, breaking down the left flank twice, with Ryan Hall and Mikey Lewis the try scorers either side of the hour mark.
