We deliver 1 or 2 year sports study programmes at Level 2 and Level 3. Over the last 3 years we have delivered courses to 120 students and average around 60 new learners per academic year.
We also provide an alternative provision option to schools in the local area and deliver dance/sports courses and practical PE to students aged 14-16 who have behavioral issues in mainstream school. We have delivered and tutored to over 50 learners with these types of issues over the last 3 years.
As well teaching them the fundamentals of sport we also teach English & Maths and give them employability skills to improve their chances of work and help them become ‘Job Ready’ when they move one from studying with us. We provide an opportunity to gain work experience through the club in retail, marketing and community coaching. We also provide work experience through our foundation partners to give them an idea of working in other industries other than professional sport.
We also offer enrichment activities such as playing for our foundation college rugby league team, which I coach personally. We compete in the College RL Yorkshire Division and we are in our 2nd year. We are doing very well and have attracted 15 new players/students to the squad this year as well as 11 players still studying with us at the Bonus Centre for another year.
We also educate the Hull FC apprentices and use our Youth Performance Centre as a base for them to study and produce high quality work for their level 3 advanced apprenticeship qualification provided by Hull College. We are tutoring these 4 young members of staff through this course to help nurture their progression into hopefully full time sports/rugby league coaches with the Hull FC community team.
In the next academic year we hope to progress and increase the delivery that the department offers by introducing a new traineeship course for 16 – 19 learners. We are also launching a Higher National Diploma programme and a Female Rugby Academy in partnership with Sirius Academy Sixth Form. All new courses will start in September 2017 which we hope will be a progression route for our current study programme learners and also attract interest from college leavers.
