HOUGHTON TO THRIVE ON CUP PRESSURE

By Matt Holden | 02/04/2014
Hull vice-captain Danny Houghton is hoping the pressure of this week’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup tie against Salford brings the best out of his side.

The Black and Whites played some of their best rugby of the campaign on the way to Wembley last season and will start this year’s competition at home to the Red Devils tomorrow night.

Coming less than a week after a 30-8 Super League victory over Salford at the KC Stadium, Houghton is expecting an even tougher test but has backed his teammates to rise to the occasion.

“It’s a really important game for both clubs as every cup game is massive. There are only three trophies up for grabs each year and the Challenge Cup is one of them,” he told www.hullfc.com

“It’s something we’d like to do well in, but so would every other team and it will come down to whoever keeps their composure and sticks to the game plan.

“It’s knockout rugby, there are no second chances and you only get one shot to do it right. That’s all part of the magic of the Challenge Cup for me and it’s something that brought the best out of us as a squad at times last season.

“For the players who were here on our run to Wembley last year, I think it’s also fair to say there’s added motivation to get back to the final and make amends.”

Tickets for tomorrow’s game are on sale now from the KC Stadium ticket office or by calling 01482 505 600, with special discounts available to season pass holders.
