Match Report: Hull FC 12-22 Huddersfield Giants

Hull FC missed the chance to strengthen their spot in the Betfred Super League play-offs going down 22-12 to Huddersfield Giants at the KCOM Stadium on Friday evening.

Tries from Jamie Shaul and Bureta Faraimo meant that Hull led going into the closing stages of the game, but two late tries from Louis Senior and Matt Frawley in the final quarter of the game sealed the points for the visitors.

The result means that the Black & Whites sit in fifth place with just two regular round fixtures remaining.

Team News

Lee Radford made just one change to his match day squad, with Jack Logan coming into the side to replace Ratu Naulago who missed out with a hamstring injury.

However, after having pulled up in the warm-up, Josh Griffin was replaced late on by 18th man Kieran Buchanan.

The Match

Hull opened the scoring just after the ten minutes in the match. A break down the right edge from Jack Logan saw the stand-in winger kick inside, allowing Jamie Shaul to chase - he had the pace to touch down the opening try of the evening.

Huddersfield hit back though through Jermain McGillvary who stepped past Bureta Faraimo and Kieran Buchanan to score in the corner, before the visitors took the lead when Aaron Murphy rose highest to a kick to collect and power over to touch down.

FC regained the lead though with ten minutes left in the half. Shaul turned from try-scorer to assist-maker sending a delightful wide ball out to Bureta Faraimo who had the pace to target a finish in the corner. Sneyd kicked Hull ahead.

The Airlie Birds almost went further ahead, but Tuimavave’s wide ball to Logan which should have sealed a certain try was intercepted by Darnell McIntosh who raced away down field. Shaul and Connor combined and had the pace to prevent him going all the way.

HALF-TIME: Hull FC 12-10 Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield had the first big chance of the second-half with a break down the left flank from Louis Senior, but his pass inside to Jake Wardle was interpreted by Logan who prevented a score from the West Yorkshire side.

It would be the Giants though who got the first score of the half with less than 15 minutes remaining, with Senior getting his second chance to go over with the power play in the corner. Gaskell’s conversion made the gap four points.

And Australian half-back Matt Frawley made sure the points headed back to West Yorkshire powering over from close range with less than 10 minutes left on the clock.
